Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 April 2026
Aerial Aligner: Freeview UK ("the app") is developed and published by Rik Watson. This policy explains what information the app accesses and how it is used.
Summary
The app collects no personal data and sends nothing to any server. Everything the app does happens entirely on your device.
Location
If you choose "Use My Location", the app requests access to your device's GPS. Your location is used solely to calculate distances to Freeview transmitters. It is:
- Never stored beyond the current session
- Never transmitted to any server or third party
- Never used for advertising or analytics
You can use a postcode instead of GPS — no location permission is needed in that case.
Motion & compass
The app requests access to the device's magnetometer (compass sensor) to show a live bearing to your chosen transmitter. This sensor data is processed on-device in real time and is never stored or transmitted.
Transmitter data
All Freeview transmitter data is bundled inside the app. No network requests are made to look up transmitters. The postcode-to-coordinates lookup uses the public postcodes.io API — only the postcode you type is sent, and no personal information accompanies it.
Analytics & advertising
The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising frameworks, and no crash-reporting services. No usage data of any kind is collected.
Third-party services
The app uses one external service:
- postcodes.io — a free, open-source UK postcode lookup API. Only the postcode string is sent. See their privacy information.
Children
The app does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a revised date. Given that no data is collected, material changes are unlikely.
